Using Optical Imaging to Combat Counterfeit Components
February 29, 2016 - Counterfeit parts and materials pose a serious threat to the United States defense supply chain. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2012 (Section 818) laid out strict guidelines for DoD prime contractors for detection and avoidance of counterfeit electronic parts1. The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) identified six federal supply groups in their supply chains that are at high risk for counterfeiting including electrical and electronic components, bearings, hardware and abrasives, pipes and fittings, engine accessories, and vehicle components2. DLA is championing development of anti-counterfeiting technologies that also provide traceability for the parts in its supply chain. A solution called QuanTEK developed by Chromo Logic LLC, involves novel optical imaging methods and has been found to work on a broad class of the DLA identified high-risk federal supply groups.
Covisus LLC Completes Successful Pilot Testing of QuanTEK 5900 with Honeywell
October 15, 2015 - Covisus LLC, a leader in tag-less anti-counterfeiting solutions, has successfully completed pilot testing of QuanTEK 5900 with Honeywell. The QuanTEK 5900 met predetermined expectations and is now available for commercial use. The QuanTEK platform uses innovative optical imaging technology to extract a unique digital fingerprint from the surface of a part in a non-contact manner. This digital fingerprint, also called a virtual intrinsic tag or vTAGTM is stored in a secure cloud database. Every time a part changes custody, a new vTAG® is generated and compared with the stored vTAG® and if a match is found, the part is declared as secure. If a match is not found, the part is declared as suspect. This methodology also provides traceability as the part moves through the supply chain.
