A company in China known as LEPIN was caught behind the production of selling replicated Lego products. This fake toy operation was estimated to be worth $30 million. On Friday, April 26th, Shanghai police stated that they raided the LEPIN companies manufacturing facility, located in Shenzhen, where they found an estimated $30 million in fake building blocks that were being distributed as LEPIN building sets. These building sets were almost identical to Lego toy sets. These almost identical toy sets also had identical packaging and branding to that of the Lego products.

An investigation was initiated last October due to finding large amounts of these fake building blocks being sold. This investigation resulted in the police finding multiple assembly lines and over 630,000 of these LEPIN products. These products are thought to be worth around $30 million. Upon these products were items that looked identical to the Lego products. There were even replicas of the Star Wars products that Lego has produced.

The main concern with this production of fake building blocks is not only the amount of money lost but the fact that these items are being sold using unidentified materials and are not going through the safety checks that actual Lego products do. Considering the fact that these items are directed towards children and can cause harm to these children is very alarming. These LEPIN products hold such a strong resemblance to Lego products that there can easily be confusion.

It is a shame that there are companies who replicate well known name brands for the sake of sells while at the same time can cause harm to consumers.
